Revised Commission Info - MLPs! No more digital!

Journal Entry: Sun Feb 24, 2008, 3:42 PM
I've come to a point where I realize that I am much, much happier doing 3d artworks than I am doing digital art, so I am going to suspend digital commissions for the time being. I spend hours and hours and days on those, only to have them be mediocre in comparison with my sculptural works, and frankly I am tired of playing my own second fiddle. I might re-open digital commissions some point down the line, when I feel my art is up to snuff and I can either spend less time working on each piece for the low price I was asking, or charge more due to higher demand.

However, with that door closing, another one opens. I will now be offering custom My Little Ponies as a commission type. Here's an example: [link]

Sculptural addons can be done in sculpey (firm or super) or apoxie sculpt. Apoxie sculpt is much more durable than sculpey, but doesn't hold as much detail as I can get into sculpey, due to it's limited work time. The more I work with it, the more adept I become, however, so this caveat might go away as I transition towards just using apoxie on ponies.

I paint these using acrylics, and can either hand paint or airbrush them, depending on color/patterns needed. The piece is sealed in JW etc's Right-Step water base clear varnish, in matte (although if you want a super shiny pony I can get some gloss), with the eyes sealed over in glossy sculpey glaze to give them that extra wet look.

I use nylon hair bought from dollyhair on any pony that has it - [link] This hair is very similar to the hair used in actual store-bought ponies, and has an excellent sheen and luster. It's fairly easy to style and comb through.

I can do mixed media with ponies - chains, feathers, gems, patches of fur, zombie ponies, leather accents, decoupage, you name it and I'm willing to give it a go. Be aware that added materials cost and complexity will be seen in the final price, however, and keep in mind that not all materials will handle ponies well: enamels will eat the plastic.

An average pony with sculpted tail, paws, ears, rehaired mane with MLP hair, and a custom paint job would run around $40. Much less sculpting would drop that price down to around $30, and much more (for example, fully feathered sculpted wings) might bring it up more towards $50. Note me for a quote on the character you would like!

------------------------------------------

Other Commission Types!

Sculpture Commissions start at $50 for a one-character, realistic piece. They are made using super sculpey or sculpey firm, wire and tinfoil, painted with acrylics and sealed with a varnish to protect the paint. They will stand about 6" or so. Eventually, I will also be offering these in ceramic, and the ceramic ones can be larger. I will also be willing to accept simplistic stone commissions, if anyone is interested in those, we will need to chat about which stone and whether your design is possible in it.

Example sculpture: [link]

Mini Sculpture Commissions start at $25 for a one-character, stylized piece. These are meant to be more "cutesy" and simple pieces, and they are much smaller than the realistic ones. They would be great as christmas ornaments and the like. Due to their small size, I can't pack much detail into these.

Example coming soon!

Pendent/Magnet/etc Commissions are $10+ depending on how complex the piece is. Keep in mind the scale involved - I cannot squeeze too much realism into a space an inch across. These are great for pendents, pins, and anything else you could use that is this scale.

There are other things which I have in the works which I may accept commissions for later - stay tuned! If you see something you really like in my gallery, go ahead and ask me if I can do one for you. Chances are I'll be more than happy to give it a whirl! :)

Payment
I require anything under $30 to be paid in full up front. Anything over $30 is half before, half after. I am sorry if this seems unreasonable but I have been burned in the past by people who didn't think setting aside money to pay me with was important. I need to eat too.

Copyright
Note: Since I am no longer doing digital commissions, this section is more or less irrelevant, but I figure I would leave it up as a reference so people would know my policies. I would still appreciate you keep my sig intact if you post your commission online though. :)

You may do whatever you like with your finished commission, including posting it on your website or selling the original. I ask that you keep my "signature" link to my website intact on the image if you post it online. You may not sell copies/prints of any art that I make for you. If you need a design for a t-shirt or something else which you need the copyright for, my prices are very reasonable, and I will happily sit down with you and figure out a contract, to ensure both of our interests. I reserve the right to include all commissioned art in my portfolio and on sites such as this one, unless you buy the copyright from me.

Revisions
I will post in-progress snapshots to you in order to ensure that things are going according to your plan. Revisions during the "sketchy" stages are encouraged. Once it comes down to adjusting the finishing touches however, anything more than minor revisions will incur a charge.

Minor revisions are slight detail changes - jewelry, color, markings, anything which can be easily fixed. Major revisions include pose and setting changes, and I reserve the right to refuse these, particularly in sculptural works where the materials have already cost me money and I would just have to throw them away. Any revisions that need to happen due to a mistake on my part are free of charge, but keep in mind this does not cover you expressing yourself poorly, so please be clear and precise. If in doubt, ask.

As always, if there are any questions, I'm more than happy to answer them either here or in a note. I don't bite ... much.

I plan on adding a lot more, but because this site isn't under my control I kinda want a logo first. Sad thing is, I suck at designing logos :/

Oh well, I'll come up with something. Thanks for adding me :)

Heh, yeah, there's not a lot here, but I'll add you to my list anyway. Perhaps you'll add more? That way I'll know when you do.
Take care!
